Client Overview

Kovobel.bg is the official website of Kovobel Bulgaria, a distributor of modular storage container units designed for easy assembly and transport. Their galvanized steel containers are used across industrial, construction and commercial sectors. Each unit can be tailored with doors, flooring and accessories depending on use case. DomGrid was responsible for the design and development of the company’s first e-commerce platform, including a custom WooCommerce-based configurator, extended functionality through custom code and a clean B2B user interface. The project was delivered fully functional, with hosting provided by DomGrid.

Client’s Challenge
  • Manual Sales Process: Customers had to request quotes manually, leading to delays and inconsistent specifications.
  • Complex Product Structure: Container configurations depend on multiple variables like size, door type and add-ons.
  • No Existing Storefront: Kovobel needed an online platform that supports B2B orders with accurate technical data and pricing.
  • Configurator Requirements: Off-the-shelf solutions were not sufficient to handle the logic and constraints of container assembly.
  • Brand Expectations: The design had to reflect industrial reliability while keeping the experience clear and easy to navigate.
Objectives
  • Launch a Full Online Store: Create a professional WooCommerce storefront for container sales and quote requests.
  • Build a Guided Configurator: Allow users to select container models and accessories in a clear step-by-step process.
  • Implement Custom Pricing Logic: Show real-time pricing updates based on user selections and configuration rules.
  • Capture Configurations in Orders: Ensure every detail selected by the user appears in the WooCommerce order view.
  • Deliver a Clean B2B Interface: Design for clarity, speed and technical trust, aligned with business buyers.

Strategy and Solution

Research and Analysis

We worked closely with the Kovobel team to translate their offline sales process into an online product flow that could handle variable pricing, accessory logic and order clarity. We reviewed available WooCommerce configurator plugins to identify a base that could support their modular product model. Based on Kovobel’s catalogue and customer workflows, we designed a configuration logic and product architecture that aligned with both user experience and internal order handling requirements.

Strategy
  • Use WooCommerce as a Base: Using WooCommerce as a base for its stability, extensibility and B2B-friendly order system.
  • Implement Step-by-Step Configuration: Guide users through base container selection, accessory options and pricing confirmation in a structured flow.
  • Extend Plugin Functionality: Add custom logic to handle dependencies between options, auto-calculate totals and capture configurations in the order.
  • Design for Technical Trust: Use clean typography, neutral tones and straightforward layout patterns to support a professional, industry-focused brand.
  • Minimize Friction in Orders: Allow both direct checkout and quote request pathways based on customer preference or order complexity.
Implementation
  • Setup Phase: We installed WordPress and WooCommerce with a product configurator plugin selected for its step-based logic and extensibility.
  • Development Phase: We customized the configurator to support Kovobel’s product rules, integrated it with WooCommerce, and ensured all selections were stored in the order meta.
  • Design and Content Phase: We designed clean container pages with specs, diagrams and consistent layout, and populated the site with base models and accessories.
  • Testing Phase: We ran full end-to-end tests of configuration paths, order capture, and responsiveness across major browsers and devices.
  • Launch Phase: We deployed the completed site with all products and configurations in place and provided a one-time training session for Kovobel’s staff.

Final Results and Summary

Outcomes
  • Custom Product Configurator: Users can configure container models, accessories and features through a guided step-by-step interface.
